Cheap, Green Exchange Ideas for Household Chemical Cleaners

If you are looking for more eco friendly ways to clean, or just looking for cheap cleaners that happen to be eco friendly, try some of these green exchange ideas to replace harsh, household chemical cleaners.

Green Exchange For Drain Cleaner

Clogged drains happen in every household, and drain cleaners contain hazardous chemicals, plus they are costly. Try this cheap, green exchange idea to unclog the drain instead of chemicals:

Fill a tea kettle full of water and bring it to a rolling boil on the stove top. Pour the boiling water into the sink drain and allow the boiling water to drain through to the clog to loosen it. Then use a small sink plunger and plunge the sink drain for a full minute to completely remove the clog. Run hot tap water through the drain to ensure all the clog is washed away.

Cheap, Green Carpet Cleaner

Cleaning chemicals to clean the carpet or rug can cause allergic reactions to small children or pets that are close contact with carpet. The price of the carpet cleaner and rental price of a steam cleaning machine is expensive too, not to mention lugging the heavy carpet steam cleaner from the store to home and back again. Try this cheap, green carpet cleaner for all over carpet cleaning or spot cleaning:

Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet stain (or work in small sections if cleaning the entire room of carpeting). Fill a spray bottle with hot water and lightly spray the baking soda with the hot water. Allow the baking soda and hot water to sit for 10 minutes on the carpet, then use a wet/dry shop vacuum to vacuum up the baking soda. The carpet will be clean and smell fresh without the use of chemicals.
