How to Remove Spots from Carpet

First, move any furniture that is around the area out of the way. You don't need to re-decorate the room, just move it a foot or two away from the dirt spot so that you'll have enough room to move around.

Take a cup of boiled water, and pour a little bit on the spot. You don't need to soak the carpet, but you'll want enough hot water on the spot so that it starts breaking up the dirt even before you put a cleaner on it.Spray a little of the cleaner on the dirt spot. (You can use just about any household cleaner to do this - Chlorox, Green Works, etc. I would recommended a product called "Awesome", if it is available in your area. It's a multi-purpose cleaner that is great for not only dirt spots, but tougher stains as well.) Let the cleaner sit on the spot for a few seconds, then rub the spot with a rag in a quick, circular motion.

If the spot becomes too "soapy", add a little more of the boiled water. Let sit for a minute. Place a folded up dry rag on top of the spot, and lightly step on the rag so you can soak up the water and the cleaner. The rug will be slightly damp. Allow the rug to dry.

There you have it! A clean rug in only minutes, and there's no need to take out the big carpet cleaning machine!
