Why I Recommend the Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaning Machine... carpet shampooer .

Recently my husband and I moved into a new rental home. A condition stipulated in our leases was that we would receive a discount on the deposit if we agreed to have the carpets shampooed or do it ourselves. Not wanting to spend a small fortune to have the carpet professionally cleaned, we decided to rent a Rug Doctor Carpet Machine. Having never used this machine before we were not sure what to expect or how difficult it would be to use. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised.... carpet shampooer .

The most difficult part of the whole process was filling out the paperwork at the store before we left with the machine. According to the manufacturer only Rug Doctor brand solution should be used in the machine, but a friend of mine recommended using Oxyclean instead of purchasing the expensive solution and anti-foam. This worked wonderfully and saved us nearly twenty dollars which we certainly did not complain about.... carpet shampooer .

Working the machine was simple. All we had to do was mix the Oxyclean with water as directed on the Oxyclean label. This mixture was then placed in the bottom tank of the machine and we were off and running. In a time period of about two hours we were able to clean three large rooms in our home without any complications, though I would recommend using less Oxyclean than you think you will need. If you use too much of the cleaner you may have residue left on your carpet. The rotating brushes on the machine worked well in removing stains that seemed to be set into the carpeting. The only complaints we had about the machine were that it is difficult to transport because of its weight and that the machine is difficult to clean after use.... carpet shampooer .

Bissell Proheat 2X Carpet Shampooer: Review...carpet shampoo .

The Bissell Proheat 2X is well worth the money and time needed to clean your carpets. If you think about how much money you are saving from needing to replace a carpet that is not maintained or from having professionals come in and clean your carpets for a couple hundred dollars, you will realize that this machine pays for itself with its first use. You will truly be amazed at how well this machine works, at all the dirt that comes up from even a seemingly clean floor and how new your carpets look when you are done using the Bissell Proheat 2X. This would be a good appliance to use as part of regular cleaning, perhaps on a monthly or every other month basis if you have areas of high traffic. It really is incredible to see just how clean this machine gets your carpets. For those who suffer from allergies, this would be an excellent way to keep your allergies under control. I highly recommend this product to anyone, and especially those that have pets and children. It will make even your dingiest and oldest carpets look much better, and your newer carpets will continue to stay looking new.

Bissell Proheat 2X Carpet Shampooer: Review

Since the first use of this machine, I have used it not only on my carpets inside the house, but also in my car. I was completely amazed at how much dirt came out of my car. One of the neat things about using the Bissell Proheat 2X shampooer is that you can see just how much dirt you are picking up, and in a way this serves to keep you going even when you get tired. You just feel like you are doing a good job seeing all that dirt removed from your belongings. This machine also works well on dog beds and leaves them free of pet hair debris and doggy smells and stains. I was also able to make a major improvement on an area rug in my dining room that I was going to throw out due to the dingy way it looked. Using the Bissell Proheat 2X extended the life of this carpet by making it look much cleaner and removing the ground in dirt and whatnot. I wish that I had this shampooer when I first bought the carpet because when used on a regular basis, this machine can really extend the life of your carpets. If you wait a couple of years to deep clean, you will see a major improvement but it is not like your carpets will become magically new again.... carpet shampooer .

The major con with this machine is the cleanup. However, I do not believe the clean up hassle would be different with any other machine. In order to thoroughly clean this machine, you must have a screw driver and take about half an hour to remove screws, parts and rinse out soapy areas and hair/debris. I do suggest taking the time to do this even though it is a major pain because it will extend the life of your machine (and it is an expensive appliance). In addition, if you leave water or solution inside the machine and go to use it a month or so later, you will realize that stagnant water does not smell pleasant, not to mention who knows what could then be growing in there.... carpet shampooer .

Some other complaints I have about this machine include that it seems to use a lot of detergent, so while the manufacturer recommends that you do a water rinse, I strongly recommend that you follow those instructions. You should also consider using the light or normal cleaning selection rather than the heavy cleaning one, which uses more detergent. You can easily go through two fillings of the detergent tank for one large room, including upholstery. Also, the hose for the handheld attachment could be a pain when you are using the floor cleaner. If it is not on tight enough, or if you happen to accidentally brush against it, it may fall. This means you will have to stop and re-wind it around the machine, unless you prefer to hold it in your other hand while you are pushing the shampooer along the carpet. If Bissell does another model based on the Proheat 2X, I hope they improve on this aspect of the design.... carpet shampooer .

Your house will smell very clean after using this machine, and it will last a couple of days. If you use the Bissell Proheat 2X on upholstery, be prepared not to sit on it for at least a day (and more if you use a lot of water) and the fabric may feel stiff if you do not use enough water to rinse it or use too much detergent. The stiffness will go away in about a day once you and your family sit on the chairs and couches. You may want to consider using just the heated water without detergent for jobs like this, unless you have major stains you want to remove.... carpet shampooer .

Easy Cleaning Tips: Pet Stain Carpet Care

Take the plastic bag off, blot the area until mostly dry.

Step Five
Pewee, I hate this step. Smell the area to make sure the odor is gone completely. Repeat this process if the odor is not completely gone.

Step Six

After area is odor free and completely dry, treat area with spot shot cleaner let it dry completely and vacuum.

Pet stains are one of the number one complaints I receive. In order to clean a pet stain successfully, you must act quickly. The longer it stays on the carpet, the deeper you have to go in order get the odor out completely. Do not be afraid to soak your pet stain.

How to Get Rid of a Urine Smell on a Bathroom Floor

Bathroom odors aren't something people usually discuss, but it can be a serious problem, especially when urine on a bathroom floor can no longer be ignored. The smell can be overwhelming, and it's sometimes difficult to get rid of, especially with ordinary floor cleaner. Accidents happen, and simply washing the floor isn't always enough to get rid of the odor.... pet urine odor remover.

It is possible to get rid of a urine smell on a bathroom floor and keep the smell from becoming an ongoing problem. At one time I had three boys living in my home as well as my husband, and the following cleaning method worked for me. If your bathroom has taken on the unmistakable and unpleasant smell of urine, give these ideas a try and give your bathroom floor a fresh start.... pet urine odor remover.

Start With a Thorough Cleaning

If a floor isn't thoroughly clean, no amount of commercial products will get rid of the smell of urine on a bathroom floor. More than likely traces of urine have seeped into the wood beneath linoleum or into grout between tiles, and simply wiping the surface just isn't enough. I used to work in a daycare center, and when I began my job, the boy's bathroom had an overwhelming smell of urine. Simply mopping the floor didn't get rid of the smell.

To get rid of a urine smell on a bathroom floor, begin by thoroughly cleaning the entire floor with vinegar and water. Add approximately ½ cup of white vinegar for every gallon of warm water, and allow it to saturate the floor for several seconds before wiping it away. Vinegar is a natural odor remover, and it does a fantastic job of cleaning and removing stains and unpleasant odors.... pet urine odor remover.

Air Freshener Isn't the Answer

Many people turn to air fresheners in an attempt to get rid of the smell of urine on a bathroom floor, but air freshener isn't the answer. Sure, it will freshen the air, but if the bathroom smells like urine, after spaying air freshener it will smell like urine and whatever scent you've added to the air. There's nothing quite like the smell of pumpkin spice and urine, and believe me, it won't make a difference, and it definitely won't get rid of the smell.... pet urine odor remover.

Febreeze Versus Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer

All things being equal the finer mist provided by the Renuzit puts it ahead of the two odor removal products. With that said Febreeze Fabric Freshener is a solid product but if you are not 100 percent happy with it, or would like a little more variety in odor removal products, give the Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer a try. It's not your mom's odor cover-up and costs a bit less.

Odor Removal: Febreeze Versus Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer... pet odor removal .

In my opinion, all of the Renuzit products provide a better fragrance than Febreeze Extra Strength, and don't have that overwhelming, cheap perfume or hideous aerosol smell associated with some odor removal and cover-up products.

Types of Odor Removal

Stale Smoke

In this household both odor removal products, along with others, have been utilized to eliminate the smell of stale smoke. Stale smoke is a difficult odor to conquer and sometimes I use additional products such as Arm & Hammer Odor Eliminator (for carpets) and Oust with Febreeze Air Effects. Yeah, I'm a bit obsessive with air fresheners.

Generally, however, I use the Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer on a regular basis for fabrics and carpet and the others on a weekly basis or so. Renuzit is the only one of the aforementioned products designed for fabrics.

Pet Smells

Previously I tried Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer when my former roommate had a pet urine war, following the addition of a new adoptee.

The Renuzit Super Order Remover helped me maintain my sanity until I was in a pet-free home again. Don't get me wrong, I love pets but can neither stand the smell of pet pee, especially litter boxes, nor wish to put up with it unless it's my own four-legged darling.

It is important to clean any pet messes before application. Neither Febreeze nor Renuzit can work miracles with pet odors if they are well absorbed into the carpet padding, though Renuzit does a superior job overall.

Price and Availability

Febreeze costs more than Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer and the latter can often be found in the dollar store for a couple of bucks.

One drawback to the Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer is that it is not well-stocked in many stores as is the Febreeze, and when it is, only one or two selections may be available.

Conclusion and New Febreeze Products

With increasing competition in the odor removal industry, Febreeze has launched new scents with claims of a new formula. By description these scents seem to compare pretty well to the Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer formulas.

Odor Removal: Febreeze Versus Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer... pet odor removal .

Febreeze kicked off a new trend in odor removal products providing much more than an odor cover-up, designed to be safe for most fabrics. Several companies have since tried to duplicate the Febreeze phenomenon without much success.... pet urine odor remover.

For many a domestic goddess and scent-savvy bachelor, Febreeze has no equal, including the generic versions of the product.
Enter Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer and Febreeze finally has some competition.
Renuzit products are no longer just about odor cover-up. Some of you may remember the days of scent cones that did little for odor control as they quickly evaporated into an ugly congealed and hardened glob. Renuzit has come a long way since.... pet urine odor remover.

Odor Removal Product Comparison
To begin, this odor removal comparison consist of Febreeze Extra Strength mist versus Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer, fine mist spray. Both odor removal products are designed to eliminate odors in the air, on fabrics and in carpets.... pet urine odor remover.

Odor Removal and Application
The first thing I noticed about Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer, besides the lovely scent, is that the fine mist provides less dampening of fabrics and better control than Febreeze. Comparing two spots on the same comforter, each sprayed with the respective product, Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizers evaporated several minutes before Febreeze did.... pet urine odor remover.
This alone reassures me that the product is safer for questionable fabrics and eliminates the need to substantially dampen clothes, linens, drapes, and furniture.

Scents Offered
While few products can beat Febreeze Air Effects for scent, it is not designed for comprehensive odor removal but rather to freshen the air. I have found some of the Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer sprays provide about equal appeal.... pet urine odor remover.
Renuzit Super Odor Neutralizer comes in five scents, two of which I've tried, and offers a bit of something for everyone: sweet (Orchard Garden), citrus (Citrus Sunburst) and two fresh scents called After the Rain and Pure Breeze. Besides Orchard Garden I originally used the lightly floral Mountain Fresh, in a lavender bottle, but it's difficult to find if it's still in production.... pet urine odor remover.

How to Remove Cat and Dog Urine Stains and Smells from Carpets... pet urine odor remover.

1) Reduce the number of animals living in one area if applicable. Too many pets in one area will create odor.

2) Bathe and groom the pet frequently
3) Clean litter boxes, crates and cages, and keep them in a well ventilated area.

4) Vacuum carpets and upholstery often

5) Allow the pet to go outside occasionally

6) Don't allow the pet to play in garbage or putrid smelling areas

7) Avoid contact with skunks

8) Shampoo the carpet and upholstery as needed. If necessary, between shampoos, sprinkle baking soda over the area, wait 30 minutes, then vacuum. Baking soda is nontoxic to animals and will soak up the smell well.

How to Remove Cat and Dog Urine Stains and Smells from Carpets... pet urine odor remover.

Cat urine is difficult to remove. Cat urine is comprised of three major components: Urea, Urochrome and Uric acid. Of all 3 components it is the uric acid which accounts for the smell. Household cleaners are ineffective in cleaning up the urine because uric acid consists of crystals and salts, which when they dampen again, will bring back the smell. Also do not use ammonia products as a cleaner for the urine. Cat urine consists of ammonia and the use of an ammonia product will act as a marker for the cat to redo his business there again.... pet urine odor remover.

The most effective products rely on bacteria and enzymes to actually eat up the last remnants of the Uric Acid and thus rid your home of the unpleasant odor. There are several of these products, such as "Simple Solution Cat Spray & Urine Stain & Odor Remover" which is available at PET CO.... pet urine odor remover.

As far as dogs are concerned ,the following recipe is one that I read on the Internet some time ago, that can be made easily and inexpensively to remove dog urine and its smell. If you don't know the exact location of the mess, use an ultraviolet light to find it. Pet urine in general will appear fluorescent under this light.... pet urine odor remover.

You will need the following: Baking Soda, White Vinegar, Dishwashing Detergent , 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and Water

First make sure that your carpet is colorfast. Use a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to check its color stability in a non-seen area. If the peroxide affects the carpet then substitute water for it. It will get the job done, but won't be as effective as the peroxide. Mix a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water together. Liberally pour over area and work into fibers. Let the solution dry. Sprinkle baking soda over it and the mix 1 cup of 3% peroxide with a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Pour over the baking soda and work it into the carpet. Allow to dry, then vacuum it all up.... pet urine odor remover.

Pets like humans have body odor. The fur in particular traps the smell to a great degree. Wherever the animal roams and whatever it goes on will usually retain some of the smell. Below are a few tips to help control the problem.... pet urine odor remover.

Hardwood Floor Stain and Odor Removal... pet odor removal .

To demonstrate the contrast in strategies for hardwood stain and odor removal, consider alcoholic beverage stains and blood stains, which in a way could go together if an inebriated person falls down. MSU Extension says for the alcoholic beverage hardwood stain, we should rub with a cloth dipped into a solution of warm water and detergent. For a blood stain, we are directed to use cold, clear water with a mop or sponge.... pet urine removal.

Until we own and maintain hardwood floors, we may surprised at the various types of stains that may present themselves. We understand finding shoe scuff marks, but lipstick? Remember, for each type of stain, there's its own formula for stain removal.... pet urine removal.

We may use water in our hardwood floor stain cleanups, but we must then dry the surface immediately. Water may seem like a harmless agent in our world of powerful chemical agents for cleaning, but water and wood don't get along.... pet urine removal.

On the website professorhouse.com, we are cautioned that when confronted with a hardwood floor stain and possibly with odor (such as with pet urine), we must also think about what NOT to do. For example, ammonia or products with ammonia are almost certain to damage our hardwood floors beyond repair. The stain may come out, but the bleaching damage may prove impossible to cure, even with refinishing.... pet urine removal.

The use of steel wool may seem like another no-no, but it's okay as long as you don't rub too hard. Minor scratches to remove a stain can be cured with refinishing. Major damage is beyond repair.

In closing, when worse comes to worse and you can't remove a stain, there's a compromise: Carpeting. No, not wall-to-wall carpeting. A nice area rug can do the trick, and actually enhance the remaining hardwood floor surface.... pet urine removal.

Hardwood Floor Stain and Odor Removal... pet odor removal .

When confronted with hardwood stain removal and the possible companion of hardwood odor removal, we may begin with a sense of remorse. We've always been proud that we maintained our hardwood floors, rather than succumbing to the easy alternative of carpeting. But now that we're confronted with hardwood stain removal, we can't help but think: This seems like an impossible challenge. After all, hardwood is named hardwood because it's, well, hard! It's a hard surface, and so it's hard to remove a stain. It almost makes us wish that we had opted for that "free installation" carpet special after all.... pet urine removal.

We discover a stain, we go to the web to look for advice, and a website tells us, "Make sure you clean the hardwood surface as soon as the spill occurs." Well, duh, it's a little late for that now. We have a stain that we didn't know about when it happened, and now we have to deal with it.... pet urine removal.

Don't despair. We can do it. We can look for hardwood stain and odor removers. If they work, fantastic. If they don't, then we'll just have to do some sanding and restoration.... pet urine removal.

The key is to identify the nature of the hardwood stain, and then to identify the proper chemicals and/or natural substances to remove that stain. There is no all-in-one solution.... pet urine removal.

Removal of hardwood floor stains and removal of carpet stains have one logical factor in common. In both cases, cleaning methods and agents should first be tested in a small and inconspicuous place, such as far back in a corner, or underneath furniture or appliances that have permanent locations in your room arrangements.... pet urine removal.

It's only fitting that we have discovered a comprehensive list from the Michigan State University Extension, which more often is identified with 4-H programs. Michigan's vast hardwood pine forests once provided the state's economic backbone.... pet urine removal.

How to Remove Pet Stains and Odors

Enzyme Based Pet Stain Removers

Enzyme cleaners eliminate the source of the stains and odors. They contain non-pathogenic bacteria and natural enzymes that digest the bacteria and proteins. I use a product called Out!. Out! works on urine, vomit, blood, and feces. When using enzyme cleaners rinse the area first to remove soaps or chemicals that might kill the enzymes. Blot the area dry, then saturate it with the cleaner and allow it to dry naturally. I never blot up the excess. That wastes perfectly hungry enzymes that could be feasting on the odor. Use less cleaner if you're working on a surface and concerned about water damage.

Specialty, Non-Enzyme Pet Stain and Odor Removal Products.
Non-enzyme cleaners aren't affected by other cleaners. Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital uses Kennel Odor Eliminator (KOE) designed to eliminate even deeply impregnated odors and Animal Odor Eliminator (AOE) designed to eliminate odors from tomcats spray, urine, and feces. These products chemically bond with and counteract the odors. Vets also recommend a foaming carpet cleaner called Equalizer Carpet Stain and Odor Eliminator. If you choose any of these products, follow the directions on the label carefully.

(3) Clean Up
Finally, you'll need to deodorize the mops or towels that you used to clean up. I use one cup of vinegar or one cup of Simple Green in the wash machine or mop bucket.

How to Remove Pet Stains and Odors... pet stain removal .

Removing pet stains and odors can be broken down into three basic steps:

(1) Remove as much of the urine or feces as possible, as soon as possible

Remove any solids, being careful not to rub it in. WetVac or blot any liquid until the area is dry. Rinse the area with water and dry again.... pet urine removal.

(2) Neutralize and Eliminate Stains and Odors
Following are four different ways to neutralize the odor and remove stains.

Home Remedy for Pet Stain Removal
Home remedies to remove pet stains use a combination of peroxide, vinegar and baking soda. Mix one part white vinegar to three parts water, saturate the area, allow it to sit for five minutes, then blot dry. Sprinkle the area with baking soda. Then add one teaspoon of a dish washing liquid to one cup of Peroxide and drizzle over the area. Use your fingers to work the Peroxide and baking soda into the carpeting and padding. Allow this to dry, then vacuum the powder and rinse with water.... pet urine removal.

Simple Green
Once I had a tenant leave two dogs locked in my house for a week. They made a very large, heavily soiled area. I called a company that specialized in removing pet stains. That left me with a faded stain, the same odor and a lighter wallet. Facing hundreds of dollars to replace the carpet, I saturated the area with an all purpose cleaner that I happened to have on hand called Simple Green. By the time I'd finished rinsing it out with my shampooer, both the stain and the odor were completely gone. I've used it several times since with good results on fresh stains. I've never had any other cleaner work as well.... pet urine removal.

Out Spot and Good Buddy Cat Vomit Pet Stain Removal Product Review... pet odor removal .

I did try using this product on old, existing stains that I could not remove with other products. I even had a professional carpet cleaner try to remove an existing stain. As expected, Out Spot did not treat and dissolve old, worn-in stains. As with most stain treatment products, the sooner that you can use Out Spot or Good Buddy on a pet stain, then the better your end results will be.

If your cat decides to hack one up on your favorite shirt or pair of pants, you can treat the stain with Good Buddy, let it soak for a while, and then run through your washing machine.

Where Can I Buy Out Spot and Good Buddy?

Out Spot and Good Buddy Cat Vomit Pet Stain Removal Product Review... pet odor removal .

Cat vomit is not fun to talk about or to clean up. If you have cats, then you know all about the distinctive hack-hack-hack sound your cat makes right before hurling all over your carpet. For people with lighter colored carpets, cat vomit stains can be notoriously difficult to remove without professional cleaning. However, if you cannot afford professional cleaning for every hair ball incident, then check out a stain and odor removal product called Good Buddy (formerly Out Spot).... pet urine removal.

Note: If your pet vomits regularly, be sure to take your lovable fur ball to the vet for a check-up as it may be an indication of a medical problem.

What is Out Spot and Good Buddy?

I first discovered this unassuming looking product at a Whole Foods store one afternoon. Caster & Pollux manufacturers this product as well as a fine line of natural pet food, snacks, and toys. I picked up a 32 fluid ounce spray bottle in citrus scent for just under $11. Armed with my new tool in fighting cat vomit stains, I went home and tried it out on my light cream colored carpet.... pet urine removal.

I recently learned that Castor & Pollux has changed the name of this product line from Out Spot to Good Buddy so you may find it under either name at pet stores.... pet urine removal.

This cleaner uses an enzyme formula to break down common stains caused from urine, vomit, feces, mildew, and spoiled food. All these yucky things are treatable with this one product.

Does Out Spot and Good Buddy Work?

My cat had a particularly nasty hair ball early one morning. Like 2:00 a.m. early. I cleaned up the tangible hair remnants and then thoroughly saturated the stain with my Out Spot product. I let the product soak in for a few hours, as indicated on the bottle. When I went back to check on it, I discovered that the formula had, in fact, cleaned up the stain and was no longer visible.... pet urine removal.

Pet Odor Removal - Apple Slices, Lemon and Baking Soda Work Wonders... pet urine removal.

In the case of your carpet having been removed, it would be more difficult, perhaps, to locate the specific areas of offense. Try this. Wash the entire area with a good powerful disinfectant type detergent and then rinse the whole floor with clean water. Then make a robust mixture of baking soda and water and wash the entire area again. Then after the floor is dry, sprinkle dry baking soda over the entire area. Let it sit for a few days and then sweep it up and check for smell.... pet urine removal.

Now let's move into the 21st century. There are some products expressly made for the problem of removing pet-made odors like yours. Almost all of these items are made with natural enzymes that attack the odor itself. Here are some of the details and product names that I discovered:

1. Outright is a product line that has: an odor eliminator, a separate stain remover and a third product that is a combination odor and stain remover. The enzymes are dry and activated by the addition of water. These products are harmless to humans and pets, and they are biodegradable. You simply follow the directions on the label. There are some fabrics that may be harmed by the application of these enzymes. These fabrics are listed on the label.... pet urine removal.

2. Another product is Four Paws. This product will reportedly even restore color to a carpet if treated soon enough after the accident. Another claim is that the product will protect the carpet by keeping the animal from returning to use that spot again. Four Paws also may harm some natural and man-made fibers.... pet urine removal.

3. There is another group of items that are repellents. When applied, these will keep the pet from using the area. Repellents are good for use on furniture, but again read the label to make sure that it will not harm the fabric.... pet urine removal.
