The Kone Hand Vacuum from Dirt Devil

My husband and I live in a small apartment. You'd think it would be an easy thing to keep it clean, but it's actually more difficult, because we have so little space to accomodate stuff that we have to use for our home office and for storage.

Sometimes the carpet can get dirty in little spots and, in the past, we have had to end up hauling out either our large-sized vacuum cleaner or large electric carpet sweeper. Those work fine, when there are larger messes to clean up, but, when it's just something small or minor, it's pretty inconvenient to have to drag those huge appliances out of the closet.

A few months ago, while looking through a Best Buy Healthcare Products catalog, we saw an item, the "Kone Hand Vacuum from Dirt Devil" that looked pretty intriguing to us. Having used Dirt Devil appliances in the past, we trusted the integrity of their product line and so read on to see just what this product was supposed to offer.

The "Kone Hand Vacuum from Dirt Devil" is a small, cone-shaped hand vac that measures 6-1/3" long X 6" wide. It only weights 1.9 pounds, so is extremely lightweight. The top part of the cone is the handle of the vacuum that is camouflaged in the base, which can be continously charged in preparation for use. This is a hand vac that looks more like a decorative art piece you have put in the corner.

Five Easy Ways to Get Your Home Smelling Great

If you smoke in your home, have animals, or even have children who aren't as tidy as you are, you probably know that it's not easy to keep your home smelling as fresh as you'd like it to be. We all know that those air fresheners don't keep the smell going as long as it says it will on the can and leaving the windows open is too much of a hassle on those windy days. Well, thanks to yours truly, you're in luck. I've come up with some fast, cheap, and simple ways to keep your home smelling great, despite who you have living with you.

1. Fabric Softener

If you have a standard fan or table fan in your home, turn it on low, take a couple of fabric softener sheets, and place them on the back of your fan. The fan will blow the fragrance of the fabric softener throughout your home and it starts working in an instant. It usually lasts for about 5-12 hours, depending on the brand you're using. I like "Bounce".

Also, you can hide fabric softener in different, unnoticeable places like under your rugs, under your trash bags in your trash can, stuffed in fake flower vases, etc. The possibilities are endless.

2. Candles

It doesn't matter what kind of candle it is, as long as it has a scent. If you place 4-5 candles around your home, and keep them lit all day (with supervision) they will keep your house smelling amazing. You can buy candles for one dollar a piece at your local dollar store in great scents like vanilla, cinnamon, apple pie, and much more. One of my favorite scents is "Clean Linen" by Glade. I believe these candles run about two to three dollars, but it's definitely worth the price.

Vacuum Cleaner Smell and How to Get Rid of Bad Odors

Does your vacuum cleaner smell? Over time, most vacuum cleaners eventually pick up an foul smell or might even smell like burning rubber. This doesn't mean that the vacuum cleaner is ruined. What your vacuum cleaner does need is a little maintenance to keep it functioning smoothly and smelling fresh.

Vacuum cleaner odors typically fall into four categories. All of these are easy to identify but only three are easy to fix.

The burning rubber smell. Vacuums smell like burning rubber when the belt breaks or the beater bar can no longer roll due to an obstruction or a loose belt. It's really easy to tell when a roller bar isn't working properly. All you have to do is tilt the vacuum backwards while "on" to see if the beater is rolling. If it's not, then unplug the cord and examine what's preventing the roller from rotating.

Sometimes pet hair, bits of yarn or string can bind around the ends of the beater bar which prevents it from rolling smoothly. These strings should be cut or pulled away from the bar.

But, if it's the belt that's broken or if the belt has too much slack, the vacuum cleaner will need a new belt. Vacuum cleaner belts are available at all discount department stores. Remember to jot down the brand name and model number of your vacuum cleaner since belt sizes differ by brands.

The mildewy, stinky sock smell. Certain vacuums can pick up mildew smells. These include models that use washable bags, or use water in their filtration systems such as a Rainbow brand vacuum. Mildew happens when filters are placed back in the machine wet, or the machine isn't allow to "air dry" thoroughly before being put back into storage.

One of the best natural stain removers to help get stains out of your clothing is Vaska Spot Off Advance Botanicas Spot Remover. This stain remover can get out all the tough stains you can't without harsh ingredients that could make stains worse and could harm you and your environment.

Now if you have a really tough stain you will need to spray some of the stain remover onto the stain and soak that item of clothing in some cold water for thirty minutes and than spray the stain again with some more stain remover and allow it to soak in before tossing it into the washing machine. You should notice after using this natural stain remover that the stain is completely gone and your item of clothing looks just as good as it did before you split whatever it was on it.

Easy Green Odor Eliminators

Who doesn't love that clean fresh smell that comes from spraying a fine mist of your favorite air freshener? Sometimes, it seems that no matter how clean our homes are, odors find their way inside, lurking in the carpets, curtains or simply hanging in the air. With four dogs and three kids, I'll admit, in the past I relied quite heavily on chemical-based cleaners and air fresheners to replace foul odors with more pleasant scents.

But I stopped using them when I learned that research conducted by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences found that chemical compound in some popular products, including air fresheners, toilet bowl cleaners, mothballs and other deodorizing products, may be harmful to the lungs, even causing reductions in lung functions.

"Even a small reduction in lung function may indicate some harm to the lungs," NIEHS researcher Stephanie London, M.D., lead investigator on the study said in a 2007 news release. "The best way to protect yourself, especially children who may have asthma or other respiratory illnesses, is to reduce the use of products and materials that contain these compounds."

Studies have also linked household cleaners with the onset of asthma attacks in people who have asthma and one common household cleaning ingredient, ethoxylated nonyl penols, are believed to cause reproductive issues in some animals, according a report printed by www.thedailygreen.com.

Controlling Fleas and Ticks Naturally

The flea and tick season is upon us and whether you have a pet or not, if you spend any time outside, there is a chance these bloodsucking pests will find you. Keeping dogs and cats pest free can be challenging and finding fleas and ticks on a pet or in the home can drive just about anyone to the store for costly bug sprays and incesticide bombs.

It is difficult to tell how many people are bitten by fleas and ticks each year, and often, the bite seem like that of a mosquito with slight pain, a small amount of localized swelling and itching. Both fleas and ticks prefer to live on animal hosts but if those animal hosts are unavailabe, or sometimes even if they are, they will seek out a meal of human blood as well. Generally the bites are not dangerous, but fleas have been known to carry fleas and typhus while ticks are known carriers of Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever as well as a few others.

Before trying toxic sprays and incesticides to rid your life of fleas and ticks, try these all natural tactics first.

Vinegar bath. Bathe dogs or cats once a week in water treated with white distilled vinegar. A spray can also be made with equal parts water and vinegar. Put in a spray bottle and sprinz pets frequently. As well as repelling pests, the spritz is also a nice way to cool pets down on a hot summer day. Just as vinegar is great for human skin and hair, it also works nicely on animal skin and fur, keeping dander to a minimum and helping fur shine.

Vinegar drops. Adding a few drops of vinegar to pet's drinking water is another way to control fleas and ticks. Just a few drops in the water does not effect the flavor of the water and seems to repel the pests from re-establishing on the animals.

Bissell Powerforce Bagless Vacuum Review

Imagine looking down at your carpet and feeling satisfied of how clean it looks. Then you get a call from the in laws that they would like to show up for a friendly visit. Instantly your eyes bolt over every item in your home, scrutinizing if it'll pass the test for cleanliness. I thought my carpets looked cleaned but found out a different story after I had purchased the Bissel Powerforce Bagless Upright Vacuum. Normally I don't get excited about cleaning products, you won't catch me on an episode of ABC's big hit Wife Swap cleaning everything from top to bottom daily. This vacuum gave me a new world of clean carpets.

When purchasing this vacuum, there is some assembly required but it is very easy. You simply screw in the handle to the vacuum and simply step down on the power button. What's great about having a bag less vacuum is no need to purchase bags. What really got my attention was seeing as I was vacuuming all the dirt that was stuck in the carpet. It's part amazing and part gross when you realize the previous vacuum really wasn't getting the job done.

The Bissell PowerGroom Pet Compact Upright Vacuum Review

Let me start out by saying that this vacuum is not to be used on your pets. I am not sure why they call it a power groom because many people I told about the vacuum wanted to know if it was supposed to be used to vacuum or groom their pets. I am not sure about your pets, but mine would never sit still for this.

Decription: The Bissell PowerGroom Pet Compact Upright Vacuum is a smaller upright from Bissell that packs quite a bit of power. I have another full size Bissell upright and one thing that is the same is the size of the dirt cup and wind tunnel chamber. I know I have had other compact uprights before that just get all clogged up right away because they are too small. This vacuum is really a great design for a compact Vacuum.

The Bissel Power Groom Compact Upright Vacuum comes with three onboard attachments. A crevice Tool, a tool for stairs, and a dusting brush. To use the tools you just pull the hose out, set it in it's upright position and put whatever tool you want to use on the end of the tube. When it is upright the brush is raised up from the floor but still spinning.

The vacuum has a 25foot cord which is fine for small areas but most likely you will not be able to do your whole house without moving the plug. To vacuum floors you simply depress the level that releases the handle. When not in use the cord is wrapped up and stores neatly.

The Bissell Power Groom is 7 amps of power, with an 11" cleaning path and only weights 11 pounds.

Bissell Vs Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaner

bought the bag less type in both bissell and dirt devil as i don't want to spend money and time(in searching for particular brand and type) for buying bags.Further i don't want to buy costly vacuum cleaners like dyson but in a range of $150-225.Dirt devil was $145(walmart).so we bought it for the first time. Then after using it for 2 years we bought bissell for $200. I liked bissell more than the dirt devil.

Bissell:

As i am having a toddler who will be picking the small dirts from the floor and will be putting in her mouth,i need a good vacuum which cleans even very minute particles. Bissell did that function very well with the help of turbo brush and new technology. It not only worked well in the carpet floor but also proved to be amazing in the bare floor of my kitchen. No more complication in the change of switch from carpet to bare floor as it is just one knob.Firstly the assembly was very much easier(compare to assembly of some toys of my kid) .

Bissell POWERforce Bagless Upright Vacuum Review

My earnings from AC go towards keeping a roof over my head and food on the table. Sometimes, though, miscellaneous expenses come up, and I have to use some of the money for other things. For example, buying mundane things like a new sweeper. I am excited, though, that it didn't take much of my earnings to make this purchase, and I got a fabulous deal! Here is my Bissell POWERforce Bagless Upright Vacuum review:

Overview
If you're in the market for a new sweeper, I have a recommendation: buy the Bissell PowerForce Bagless Upright Vacuum and you won't be sorry. This sweeper is lightweight- only 16 pounds- and easy to maneuver around your house. Bissell sells basically the same model with a wider head, but this sweeper reaches in tighter spots. Even though the handle and body are made of plastic, don't be fooled into thinking it can do the job. It's powerful 12 Amp motor can clean up the messiest of dry messes.

Price and Availability

I paid a mere $49.62 plus tax for this sweeper at my local Wal-Mart. The store had a line of about ten vacuum cleaners from the most expensive models down to the cheapest. This Bissell PowerForce Bagless Upright Vacuum was the third from the cheapest end. That made me wonder about my choice... until I got it home and put it into use.

Since this model features a large capacity, clear dirt cup, it's not going to cost me the additional expense of paper bags that constantly need replaced. The clear dirt cup allows me to see when it becomes full so I know when to empty it out.

iRobot 500 Series Vacuum-Cleaning Robot

Review: iRobot 500 Series Vacuum-Cleaning Robot - Robots have been around for quite some time. Unfortunately, up until now, there hasn't been any innovative robotic machine for the home that the average consumer could afford. iRobot has developed and put in a lot of research in order to create a useful time saving alternative to conventional home cleaning and maintenance.

Not only does the device clean effectively with its dual speed counter rotating brushes but it will also filter out the dusty air that passes through it just as good as any conventional vaccum cleaner.

Because of the iRobot 500 Series Vacuum-Cleaning Robot's small form factor, you will be able to clean underneath beds, coffee tables and couches without having to bend down or move any heavy furniture.

If there are any specific areas in your home that you do not want the iRobot 500 Series Vacuum-Cleaning Robot to venture off to, you can setup the provided virtual battery powered walls to keep the unit where it needs to be. I find this particular feature very useful.

Cleaning Tips

Easy carpet cleaning tips

Cleaning carpet is never that easy especially if the stain is cause by blood, red wine, lipstick or crayons. But as a father of an active four year old I have experienced these carpet disaster and I know just how you feel when we saw our brand new carpet being made into a blackboard by our toddlers. But ever heard of the cliche "there is always a solution to everything" and here are the quick solutions that we need for carpet cleaning with stubborn stains.

For those stained with blood simply spray a solution of bleach and detergent directly onto the stain and let the carpet absorb for a couple of seconds before brushing it with a soft bristled brush. This is also applicable to the red wine stain. But for those trickier stains like lipstick and crayons we may need to apply directly a small amount of bleach onto the stain and rub it with a soft cloth do it again until stain disappears if we have a colored carpet use the bleach that is intended for coloured clothes or items. For the crayons, pour or spray a very hot water onto the spot and brush with a soft bristled brush or rub with a cloth. Then follow up with a spray of detergent and bleach this will definitely solve our carpet worries away. Here also the other tips that we can use.

QUICK AND EFFICIENT CARPET CLEANING TIPS:

Regular vacuum cleaning is the basic cleaning of carpet

High traffic Area -Daily

Medium Traffic Area -twice in a week

Entire area -once in a week

Take care to change the bags often

To remove water-soluble stains, apply some detergent solution, working from the edges to the center of the stain. Place several layers of white paper-towels over the spot and weight down with books and pans.

Roomba the Robotic Vaccum

Many people have heard of the Roomba. It is a small robotic vaccum that vacuums carpets and other types of flooring. It is developed by the IRobot company. It is small and shaped like a home bathroom scale. Like a lot of other people I have been wondering if the Roomba can actually do what the IRobot company claims that it can. I recently purchased a Roomba because I was curious about it and I needed help with vaccuming anyway. It turns out that the Roomba was in fact very effective in cleaning carpets and wood floors.

Roomba works by using dozens of sensors that detect dirt and monitor the room that the Roomba is in. When the Roomba detects dirt it adjusts and increases the intensity of the cleaning. Its sensors are also able to detect stairs and prevents it from falling down them. There are three different cleaning modes on the Roomba depending on how much you want it to clean. Roomba also remembers how a room is set-up so that it can clean quickly and efficiently. It picks up all kinds of dirt including pet hair. I have a cat with long hair and the Roomba really helps with picking up the hair that the cat sheds. It really helps save me a lot of work. The Roomba is pet friendly and it will not endanger your pet. My cat was curious at first but now just ignores it as it works.

Hoover Elite Rewind Upright Bagless Vaccum U55079RM

We were out shopping and I saw a great buy, that we just had to have. It was the Hoover Elite Rewind Upright Bagless Vacuum for just $55 plus sales tax. We were in Big Lots and the suggested price was $90. We do have a similar vacuum for the downstairs, of our townhouse, but needed one for upstairs. As the years go on it is harder to keep carrying that vacuum up and down 17 stairs. We have 3 mini-vacs for the stairs.

We brought the package home and it was very easy to assemble. The handle slides in and there is a screw to hold it in place. The hand tool holder just snaps into place and then the tools slide into their own areas. The hose has to be positioned over the slots on the back of the cleaner, then it goes over the hook and pushes onto the tube. There are instructions and diagrams, which make it extremely easy to do.

This bright red cleaner has a cord that you pull out as far as you want, and then when finished just hold the end of the plug and push down on the yellow cord pedal. No more problems with holding the cord, throwing it from side to side as you move around, the having to wind it over the top and underneath the handle. It will always look neat and tidy. There is a warning 'To prevent cord from whipping, hold plug until cord is rewound'. It really does fly back quickly.

The handle of the cleaner has 3 portions for storage, operating, and low for reaching under furniture. I love the last one because it makes going under low tables so easy.

It also has 7 different settings depending on the height of your carpet, and can also be used on hard floors. It even allows you to vacuum bathmats etc., without getting them stuck in the vacuum, or worse still, pulling at the end of them so that they fray.

Using Dry Carpet Cleaning in Charlotte, NC

DryPro Carpet Maintenance is truly one of the most efficient companies in all of Charlotte, NC when it comes to getting your carpeting really clean. They have been around since the year 2005, and have a great reputation in the Charlotte and surrounding areas for providing efficient, trustworthy, and friendly service to residential and commercial customers alike.

What makes them so efficient? Not only their dedication to their jobs and customers, but truly it is all in the method they use - dry cleaning. Dry cleaning for carpets is the best way to go if you really want to maintain and care for your investment. What is dry cleaning?

DryPro uses the Host method of cleaning, employing non-allergenic, fresh-smelling material the consistency of sawdust. This dry "stuff" actually soaks up and traps the dirt in your carpeting, and then that is vacuumed away. This works along with other stain-removing sprays that seem to work like magic on your carpeting! Your carpeting can be restored to a near-perfect condition once again... without all the damage that comes with other wet or "chem-dry" methods.

Really, wet or chem-dry methods only damage your carpeting in the long run. Colors become worn-out, and mold and mildew are a common result. What can you expect when you are adding moisture to your carpeting - something that carpeting was not meant to withstand?

What's more, DryPro is a family owned and operated company, trained and certified in the Host system of dry carpet cleaning. You can be assured the workers that come into your home know what they are doing, and will leave you with more than you expected! And pricing is definitely competitive! Don't waste your money on wet methods of carpet cleaning - you will only spend more in the long run!

Best Carpet Cleaning Machines

Investing in a carpet cleaning machine is a great idea. You do not have to wait 6 months to have professionals out and you know the job will be done right. However there are carpet cleaning machines that, well to be nice.... stink. Some dispense water, but the suction is not good and your carpets are drenched when you are done, not to mention, the stains are still there. On the other hand there are carpet cleaning machines that work wonders!

The best carpet cleaning machines

Bissell Proheat 2x Carpet Cleaning Machines work wonders! They are around $200, but worth the extra money. The small cheaper upright cleaning machines for $75, do not often work well.

Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaning Machines. These can be very expensive, around $500. They are a bigger heavy duty machine, Your carpet will be amazing when you are finished. The suction is amazing, and it really lifts stains well.

Smaller portable carpet cleaning machines.

The Green Machine is a small portable carpet cleaning machine which is for spots, not cleaning an entire room. They are pretty inexpensive, and surprisingly, work wonders. It literally pulls any stain up, and it is very nice and lightweight.

You can purchase any of the above from even Walmart. These three are really worth the investment. All three of them work wonders and are my top 3 picks, each in different ways. The green machine is for small areas. The Bissell is perfect for a normal house, normal rooms. The Rug Doctor is perfect for starting a business or even for your home.

Make sure to invest in a good carpet cleaner solution. You can purchase this where you buy your machines. Most solutions are good.

Carpet Cleaning Tips

It is pretty much a foregone conclusion that your toast will land on your carpet buttered side down. What scientific principle governs this, I could not tell you. However, the same formula finds application with grape juice, red sauces and semi-chewed Swedish fish candy. In addition, if you have kids, the probability rate of sloppy foods plummeting onto your newly installed cream-colored rug triples.

Of course, the best way to keep your household rugs clean is to never walk on them, ever. Or if you must walk on them, diligently apply that clear, thick plastic covering that your Grandmother uses to safeguard her precious floral love seat. You will doubtlessly feel like a microwave dinner, enshrouded in synthetic plastics, but at least your carpet will remain pristine.

For the rest of us, who live in a somewhat realistic world, we may find it challenging to keep those well used carpets looking new. What trouble-free tips can we utilize?

For one thing, wipe your feet before you step indoors. This simple act, something we've all taught our kids to do, oftentimes goes overlooked. Wiping your shoes also cuts down on pesticides, some of which break down quickly outdoors in the sunlight but may last for years in your carpets.

Another astonishing option, which is a standard custom in some parts of the world, is to actuallyremove your shoes. Although it's not a Japanese dojo, it is your home, and shoe removal is still somewhat about respect, but more so about what your family dog has left outside for you to wade through.

Determining the Factors in Finding a Good Carpet Cleaning Company

In any city or state, there are huge numbers of carpet cleaning services and they continue growing! all of them claiming of being the best, offering the lowest charges and marketing their new methods. Indeed, finding the best company would require you to conduct homework and keen mindset of what to look for.

For most residents of Naperville, Illinois, carpet cleaning tasks are left to the professionals. But these clients didn't just pick out the service randomly or called the first ad they saw. Instead, these persons scouted for the most cited company, the reasonably priced service and the apt techniques needed in particular by their carpets, area rugs and home furniture.

So how do you find the highest quality in such service?

First, you ask around from people within your circle who they hire for cleaning their carpets. They would give reliable accounts of previously hired cleaners, including costs, work ethics and dependability of crew. The leading Naperville carpet cleaning companies have surely rendered quality service and took extra care of their customers' needs, thus, earning their positive references.

It would also be wise to do a background check of the affiliations of these companies as well, including their standing with the local chamber of commerce and the Better Business Bureau. Their membership to these reputable organizations would vouch for their worth and excellence in the industry.
