Eco-Friendly Stain Removal: Coffee

Coffee stains can be tough to get out, especially if they've been there a while. But did you know harsh chemicals aren't the only way to get them out? As a lover of nature and health, I have experimented with eco-friendly ways to do just about everything, including stain removal. Coffee stains can actually be removed naturally. In fact, in my experience, many natural methods have been more effective than chemicals.

Green Ways to Get Coffee Stains Out of Clothing

Got coffee stains on your favorite shirt? Don't worry just yet. The first step is a cold water rinse. Don't rub the stain at all. Simply run it under the water. This may actually push the stain through the fabric and out. If you need something stronger than water, your next step will be a vinegar rinse. Fill the sink with a half and half solution of vinegar and water. Just like with the water, do not rub the stain. Swish the fabric back and forth in the sink. Do this for several minutes.

Examine the area where the stain was. If there is still some residue, add some eco-friendly dish soap to the routine. Squirt a dot of dish soap onto the stain. Take a dry cloth and put it under the stain. Take another dry cloth and dab the stain. It may push through onto the other cloth. This is the goal. Now use your vinegar rinse again and the stain should be gone. If your coffee stain has been on for a longer period of time, you may also need to try baking soda. Just dab a small amount onto the stain with a dry cloth underneath. Rub very lightly. Use the vinegar rinse once again.
