Craft people, children and parents are often plagued with glue stains on clothing or other surfaces. Once the glue is allowed to dry and set in, it is virtually impossible to successfully remove. The key to glue stain removal is to promptly treat the area.
1) Remove excessive glue quickly. Use a butter knife or some other device to scrape the glue from the fabrics surface.
2) Apply cold water quickly. Rinse the fabric using cool to lukewarm water.
3) Apply a citrus-based cleaner. Citrus cleaners contain acid that can eat the glues sticking ability away so the area can be cleaned using laundry soap and then washed.
4) Craft people should always keep glue remover handy when utilizing glue for crafts, model making or other projects. Promptly treat carpets or other surfaces using the remover. Glue remover works well to remove the sticky residue and the stain of most glues it is designed for.
5) Apply ammonia to areas of fabric that are stained with glue. Ammonia will often eat through the glue and help lift it out. Promptly launder the fabric to remove the ammonia.
6) Certain sticky brands of glue can often be heated with an iron on a low setting and then peeled from the fabric using a knife or your fingernails.
7) WD-40 will remove many industrial glues from clothing successfully. Unfortunately, the oil often leaves its own stain on the clothing so prompt treatment for an oil stain is often required using a stain lifter chemical.
8) Apply vinegar promptly to a wet glue stain. Vinegar will often render the glue less sticky and unable to stain the fabric. Allow the vinegar to sit on the fabric for up to an hour prior to washing the clothing piece in the washing machine.
