How to Shampoo Your Carpets

As the weather begins to turn pleasant, many individuals start to think about spring cleaning, especially shampooing their carpets.

Many will turn to professional carpet cleaners to do the job. You can save a lot of money and do just as good a job as professionals by doing it yourself. It really isn't that hard to do. This article will provide you with some helpful hints on doing it yourself.

First off, pick a date to do your cleaning. Clear your calendar of any activity. You can't be bothered with any appointments that will tie up your time. Rent a carpet shampooer. You can rent them at Lowe's, Carpet and flooring stores, and even your local grocer. Keep in mind that these machines are used by the general public. That means you could get a bad machine. Check them out closely and read the manual carefully before you rent. Ask for verbal instructions as well.

Note; Sometimes the best looking machine isn't the best. I always pick the one that looks like it has been used a lot. I figure it is used a lot because it is the one that gets the job done the best.

Select the right shampoo. This is very important. Use what is recommended by the renter. Also get some stain remover.

Before you start on your carpet, remove all furniture from the room if possible. If you can't do this, set everything to one side of the room. Do what I call half and half. That would be two carpets at a time. I do one room first and while it drys, I do the half of another room. Then I move everything in the first room to the other side and finish it. This way, I get two rooms done.

Before I do any room, I use my stain remover and try to get out all spots on the carpet first. Be patient. Let the remover soak into the carpet and gently use cloth and rub out the stain. You might have to repeat this process.

Always vacuum the floor well before you start any cleaning. The more dirt and animal and human hair you get picked up the better. Take your time and do a thorough job.

Once you begin the shampooing, stick to it until you are done. Follow the directions on the machine use exactly as they state.
