How to Remove Ink Stains from Leather Upholstery

Removing ink stains from leather upholstery is not easy. It requires a lot of care and attention so that the leather is not ruined. Finding the right commercial leather cleaner that will remove ink stains is also quite a challenge as you sift through product after product before you find the right one that will work most effectively. Commercial leather cleaners can be quite expensive, leaving you with a dent in your wallet. But rather than search around and end up spending a small fortune on commercial leather upholstery cleaners, you can use what you have at home to remove ink stains. Read on to find out about effective home remedies that will work and leave leather looking just as good as it did before the ink stained the leather upholstery.

Hairspray

When I first found out that hairspray was effective at removing ink stains from leather upholstery, I was rather sceptical and doubted that it would work to remove the ink stains left on the leather upholstery of my car. But it is actually a very effective way of removing ink stains from leather. Start off with a clean cloth and a bottle of your usual brand of hairspray. It does not have to be an expensive brand for this method to work. Spray some of the hairspray directly onto the leather upholstery and leave it for a few moments to dry. Use the cloth to wipe off the hairspray and a second cloth that is slightly damp to remove the stickiness of the hairspray from the leather upholstery. The hairspray will gradually fade and then lift the ink stains. A second or third application may be required, depending on how stubborn the ink stain is. Be careful not to rub too hard.

Rubbing Alcohol

Most households have a bottle of rubbing alcohol on hand that can be used to clean cuts and scrapes and other minor incidents. But rubbing alcohol can also be used to gently help lift ink stains from leather upholstery. Add some rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and rub it into the ink stain.
