Getting Your Home Ready for the Holidays with Area Rugs

With Christmas quickly approaching, now is the time to get your home ready for the influx of holiday visitors. While it may still feel too early for deep cleaning and decorating, the fall months are actually the best time to do it, before the busy holiday season hits. And getting your home in shape doesn't have to cost a lot of money; by following a few easy rules, it won't take a lot of time either. With a few simple phone calls, some contemporary rugs, and a little holiday decoration shopping, your home will be ready for the holidays; and you will be ready to focus on other tasks like Christmas shopping, knowing that your holiday decorations plans are all ready.

Before making any decorating plans, you'll want to do some deep cleaning. Depending on your schedule and budget, you can either set aside a weekend to do it yourself, or hire it out. Companies like Stanley Steemer offer a large variety of services at reasonable prices, and can cover most of your deep cleaning needs in one visit. Getting the carpets shampooed, the tile and grout cleaned and the furniture cleaned can all be done in one day, leaving you to the lighter cleaning tasks you probably do on a weekly basis anyway.

Once your home is deep cleaned, you'll want to assess the furniture arrangements and the condition of the rugs in the areas where you expect to have guests. Make sure the furniture is arranged to maximize social interaction, and if there isn't currently room for your holiday decorations, make some. You don't have to move the furniture right away, but definitely make a plan for how you will want it to look. Also, it's nice to make sure that your area rugs are cleaned and in good repair, as the rug is often the one piece that ties everything in a room together. If your area rugs aren't looking too good, consider replacing them with contemporary rugs that will look good throughout the holiday season and beyond. If they are still in good repair and just dirty, get them cleaned along with your carpets.
