Homemade Pet Deodorizer

Hate that wet dog smell? Does your cat smell like its litter box? Does your whole house smell like a zoo? If so, you may often turn to deodorizing sprays that clear the air and your furniture, but you can't spray it on your pets. Or there are sprays you can buy that you can spray your pets with to make them smell lovely, but you can't spray them on other surfaces like your couch.

So, what do you do? You make your own pet deodorizer that you can spray on your animals and on your household items. Cheap, easy, and certainly safe for everyone.

A quick way to make a homemade pet deodorizer that is safe to spray directly on your pets' skin and your own furniture and carpeting is to combine a tablespoon of almond oil, 3 tablespoons of Aloe, and 6 to 8 drops of lemon, orange, or any citrus extract. Pineapple even works. Combine all these ingredients in a regular spray bottle and fill the bottle the rest of the way with water and spray. Shake well first for the best use.

If you don't have any citrus fruit extracts or oil, simply boil lemon, orange, grapefruit, or pineapple peels or pieces in a cup of water until half the water is boiled out. Pour this remainder in the spray bottle and add your aloe and almond oil. If you don't have almond oil, olive oil or Vitamin E capsules broken and poured out will work in the bottle as well.

This concoction works wonders to both deodorize your pets and your home. The aloe and oils work to soothe your pet's skin (dry skin is stinky skin as well) and keep them from licking and chewing from the taste, preventing them irritating their skin, and the citrus extracts eliminate odors in the air and the pet's fur, not just covering the odors up.

This solution is safe for your pet's skin and your furniture, and is a great way to soothe an itchy dog or cat as well, in promoting healthy skin and a shiny coat. Just avoid spraying in the eyes, as it will burn. You can use other essential oils as well, but citrus ones eliminate the odors the best. You can even spray this directly in your cat's litter box to quickly get rid of that litter box stench for relief for the whole home.
