Cleaning Checklist for a Bedroom

Vacuuming the floor and pushing dust off the bedside tables and chest of drawers is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cleaning a bedroom. For a thoroughly clean bedroom, you will need a ladder, window cleaner, bucket of water and a mild detergent like dishwashing detergent, vacuum cleaner (helps even if you don't have carpeting), and rags. If you have carpeting, include spray-on carpet cleaner; no carpeting or an area rug, include a dust mop, scrub mop, and squirt-on floor cleaner. Next, create a cleaning checklist for a bedroom using the following categories and instructions.

Ceiling and Walls

A vacuum cleaner with the small brush attachment can be used to remove spider webs and dust from doors, door frames, window frames, window screens (in summer), window sills, overhead lights and fans, and from the corners of the room, including where the ceiling meets the wall. The closet ceiling, shelves and light should also be cleaned. If you do not have a vacuum cleaner, use rags or a dust mop. The wide brush vacuum attachment or a dust mop can be used to remove dust from the walls. Return to the small brush attachment or continue with the mop to clean the baseboard.

Remove and wash the shade and bulbs of the ceiling light. Wash the blades of the ceiling fan. Window blinds can be removed, placed in the bathtub with a few inches of soaping water, and wiped clean of grime. Stand the blinds as best as possible on their side to drain in the tub or take the blinds outdoors and stretch them out on the grass to dry. Use window cleaner on windows and mirrors. Use a damp rag to clean pictures.

Furniture

Remove and wipe clean everything setting on flat surfaces, like lamps, jewelry box, books or clock radio. Use a damp or dry rag as appropriate. Dust the top of flat surfaces using a damp rag if needed to remove stains from spills, like from coffee or cologne. Vacuum lamp shade and wipe the bulb and lamp with a damp cloth.

Fabrics

Remove window curtains or drapes and launder if machine washable. If not, dry clean or shake the drapes outside to remove dust. Vacuum upholstered furniture, using a spot cleaner if needed.
