What I Think of My Dyson DC17 Animal Vacuum

About two years ago, my Hoover vacuum finally died and like most women nowadays, I was ecstatic about it! Why? Well, because my old vacuum's death was the excuse to by a new vacuum, and what better vacuum than the cool, hip and extremely necessary Dyson? It took some convincing to get my husband to agree to buying a Dyson. At the time they were over $500.00 and that is a solid investment compared to many other vacuum cleaners out there!

We purchased the Dyson DC17 Animal. The claim that the bagless vacuum never loses suction matched with the promise to handle dog hair was a good fit for us. We have two dachshunds so even though they don't shed a lot they still have fur and it would be nice to ensure our vacuum picked up their hair. I also have boys and they are messy! I had high hopes for this vacuum, which were justified by the $500.00 price tag!

Upon getting the Dyson home, I ran it over the area where I had previously used my Hoover. I could not believe how much junk came out of our carpet! The canister was full of lint and dust and hair. It was gross! This all came from the same area where I had just used my other vacuum! I could not believe how much stuff my last vacuum left behind! I ran my Dyson over the carpeted areas in my home about 3 times before the canister stayed empty. I felt like my home was so much cleaner!

  1. LOL... I've had a Dyson for what seems to be 'forever'. Recently I did a small job in my house which entailed replacing and sanding a section of gyprock/dry wall.. The Dyson (DC02) was put into action cleaning the fine dust generated and I think this contributed to it's demise. After looking around for a new cleaner, I decided to enquire with Dyson Australia on a repair/motor replacement. Having used a borrowed cleaner for the 7-10 days my DC02 was away, I couldn't wait to have it returned. When called with a quotation for it's repair I was pleasantly surprised to find my Dyson would be returned with a new motor and two years warranty for only $175! Most brand new cleaners, cheap ones, aren't too cheaper than this... I've since done just as you did, running the cleaner over 'clean' floors and it is full of dust/lint. Enjoy your Dyson, I can't say enough good of them!
