Pet Hair Removal from Furniture

In many families, pets are considered a regular member of the household, and are allowed to go anywhere in the house and lie down on any piece of furniture. Where ever they go, often times they leave many reminders of their presence. Pet hair removal from furniture can be difficult.

A pet cat or dog has more hair than all the humans do in one household combined. Compared to human hair, pet hair doesn't hold fast. Animal hair has the tendency to drop off the body every few minutes, sticking to the furniture, carpets, and even to air conditioners. These hairs gather in every nook and cranny imaginable. Aside from their unsightliness, they can also act as allergens.

Pet hair removal from furniture is so difficult that even vacuum cleaners are mostly useless in removing it. One of the best ways in dealing with pet hair is to use packing tape. Unroll some of it and stick it on top of something round like a bottle or cardboard tube with the sticky part facing outwards. Start rolling it over the hairs and you will have in your hand an effective pet hair remover. Roll it several times over the surface of the furniture until it is full with hairs. Apply tape at the tip of a pointed object to reach the inner parts of the furniture. If you don't want to make one yourself, pet hair or lint rollers are available at the store.

It is harder to remove cat hair, which easily blends in with the furniture fabrics. A magnetic feather duster may do the job. The synthetic materials in these artificial dusters attract cat hair better than standard feather dusters because they are lighter and finer. It is important to clean the duster occasionally; too much debris reduces its effectiveness.
