How to Clean and Maintain a Laminate Floor

In order to get started, you will need the following tools: vacuum, floor mop with terry cloth bonnet, spray bottle or laminate floor cleaner. I recommend you have a separate mop that you keep just for cleaning laminate floors (A mop that you won't use any other chemicals on that may leave residue on your floor). Having two terry cloth bonnets for your mop will allow one to be in the wash while you use the other.

A floor mop made for cleaning hardwood and/or laminate floors may be purchased from almost any hardware store (Home Depot, Colour Your World, Home Hardware, etc.). Terry Cloth bonnets are available with some mops and allow for regular washing. I purchased the Woodpecker laminate floor cleaning kit but there is a less expensive brand - and mop - available at Home Hardware. I use it regularly now and it works great. I'm sure Home Depot or Lowe's would have a similar product.

Laminate Floor cleaner is made especially for laminate floors, dries quickly, yet leaves no residue on your floor (which saves on streaks). It runs about $12 per bottle and lasts for quite some time. If you're not willing to part with $12 for a bottle then I'd recommend you use a solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean your floor. I've tried this and it works fine. Use a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water. It will remain moist for a bit longer but this leaves no residue (which can lead to marks and streaks on your floor).
