How to Stock Your Cleaning Closet

Every household needs its supply of cleaning tools and formulas. Have a basic stock of multipurpose cleaners and tools for house cleaning your whole house from top to bottom.

Broom and Dustpan - a must for cleaning floorsand getting into corners. Floor sweepers do a good job of in-between cleaning, but nothing beats the old-fashioned broom and dustpan for hard-to-reach areas.

Mop and Bucket - There are many types of mops on the market for anyone to choose a favorite style to work with. Choose sponge mop for concentrated cleaning of small areas or rag-style mops for larger floors and for getting under things and in the corners really well. Floor steam cleaners are designed to sanitize the floors beyond the cleaning power of a wet mop. The floors also dry in a fraction of the time it takes when mopping the floors. While steam cleaners serve a priceless function in the sanitation of your floors, the old mop still does the job of cleaning up spills and washing the floors.

Purchase two buckets - one cleaning the floors and one for other general housecleaning, such as for cleaning the walls, windows and other household surfaces.

Cleaning Cloths, Sponges, Scrub Brushes and Pads, Towels - for all of your household surfaces including glass windows and mirrors, as well as pots, dishes and other items throughout the house, use these cleaning tools to wash away dust, dirt and grime. Use dry cloths and towels to buff your shiny surfaces and glassware to a shine.

Duster - use this for your in-between cleanings. Dusting removes dust from your lighting fixtures, surfaces, displayed items and books before it settles and starts to stick. Once dust sticks, the only option is to give these things a good scrubbing. Save yourself a little time by dusting regularly - every other day, twice a week or at least once a week.

Vacuum - an irreplaceable modern convenience, and every home should - or deserves to have one. The suction power of the vacuum combined with the spinning force of its brushes pulls dirt out of rugs. Regular vacuuming extends the life of your rugs. Vacuum attachments also make it easy to clean drapes and upholstery.
