5 Cleaning Products that Should Be Kept on Hand

Keeping the house up can become a serious task with spills and tiny hands touching the walls. Shoes leave a trail of dirt on the floor and scuff marks that can be very hard to remove.
By far, Goo Gone is my most favorite item on this list. It can be found in spray gel form, which is my preference, and can be used on many surfaces to remove unwanted elements. It should not be used on leather, silk, suede, rubber or uncoated wallpaper and is a good idea to test it on a hidden area. This has been the savior of most things in my home starting with candle wax that was melted into the fireplace mantel. It can also remove hair removal wax if it has dripped onto anything as well as gunk that has embedded its way into the carpet. It's simple to use but be sure to read and follow the directions on the bottle because its usage is different depending on the surface area. Cost: $3-$5 depending on the store.

Resolve foaming carpet cleaner or the generic form is another item that is great to have in a home with carpet or rugs. I have used both and found them to be equal in removing spots from the carpet. This cleaner is great for carpet but is also capable of cleaning upholstery, wool and nylon. Spills or dirt from out door activity can stain carpets easily so it is important to remove the spot as quickly as possible. There are directions for carpet and upholstery cleaning and it does recommend to do a spot test before being used. Cost: $4-8 depending on the store.

Greased Lighting degreaser and cleaner is an amazing product with multiple uses but I prefer it mainly for the kitchen. Greased Lightning cuts through grease and stains very well. Spraying it on areas with built up grease that is unseen or forgotten can make the cleaning very easy especially since grease and grime can cover everything its vicinity. It is also great for removing heavy dust from areas such as blinds and window ledges and is a product that will actually remove Crystal Light stains from Formica. Cost: $3-8 depending on the store and size.
