Spring Cleaning

Spring is here, and the deep cleaning is about to begin. Here are 5 tools you can't do without.

#1 - The vacuum. This piece of equipment is often used in everyday cleaning, but when it comes to spring cleaning you may find yourself using all those extra attachments. You will use them on the carpet edges, stairs and furniture. It is necessary to vacuum the floors before you shampoo them as well. It is a great tool for deep cleaning between couch cushions and will even work on a hard floor in those tough to reach with a broom spaces.

#2 - Scrub brush/scrub pad. The truth of the matter is that grease and dirt builds up everywhere. There are places in our house that often get looked over in everyday cleaning. They tend to build up with guck and it takes a little bit of scrubbing to clean them. There are also things like calcium and lime build-up in the bathrooms that cannot simply be wiped down. It is also a good idea to scrub down kitchen counters where food is prepared. A good scrubbing can remove dirt particles you may not be able to see.

#3 - Shampooer. This is the biggest item you will probably use. Floors receive the most wear out of any other item in our home. Foot traffic causes the most damage to the item as well as bringing in the most dirt from the outside. The floor is subjected to more spills than any other surface in the house. It is necessary to clean the carpets with a steam cleaner or rug shampooer in order to pull up the dirt that gets grounded down into the carpet fibers and padding below. A good shampooing will bring life back into the carpet and help to remove the traces of common foot paths created.

#4 - Feather duster/dust cloth. Every surface in your home is going to need to be wiped down. Dust settles everywhere. Dust unlike dirt and grease can usually be wiped down or brushed off. If using a dust cloth it is a good idea to add a little dusting spray to the surface to help make it shine.
