How to Go Green by Cleaning Your Home the Eco-Friendly Way

Many of the commercial home cleaning products on the market today contain harsh chemicals that are not only a danger to the environment, but can be hazardous to your health. Ingredients such as bleach, ammonia, and many other chemicals can be irritating to skin and respiration, highly poisonous and/or harmful to the environment.

Cleaning products are not required to list ingredients on the label, but you can find harmful and toxic ingredients by looking up the Materials and Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the products you use. To find an MSDS on a household cleaning product try a simple web search for the product name and "MSDS". Some companies keep these on their website, and all companies are required to provide one on request.

For example, there is nothing stopping a company from simply making a cleaning product a green color and putting "green" in the name. Consumers may be misled into thinking it is a superior eco-friendly product. You should always do your own research on ingredients when you go green.

One way to go green is to make your own green home cleaning products. I use several homemade products for ecofriendly home cleaning. Most of these are made with a few simple ingredients:
