Tips for Carpet Spot Removal

Accident's happen, especially if you have children, and it can leave you with unwanted spots on your carpet. Whether your children decided to draw on your carpet with markers, spill food or paint.
First of all, make sure that you clean the spot up as soon as you see it. It takes time for a spill to become a stain because the coloration must first attach itself to the carpet pile. If you clean the spill quickly, you can avoid having it soak in and remove it before it becomes a stain. Once the stain sets in, the moisture in the carpet evaporates and the stain is pulled from the backing, back up into the pile making a once removed stain reappear.

The first tip is to not run on the stain. Scrubbing a stain brings more problems and may cause it to be impossible to remove from the carpet. Instead, you should blot the stain with dry cloth towels or paper towels until the area is completely dry. If you must rub the stain, use a brush and rub 10 times in one direction and then 10 times in the other direction. Work from the outside of the stain and move inward. You can also apply stain removal or water to a white towel and blot.
