Carpet Stain Tips

Carpet Stain Tips

Carpet stains happen, but that doesn't mean you have to live with them. If a stain occurs, make sure to clean it as soon as possible for best results.
Common Stain Removal Tips:

Acid Carpet Stains

Use baking soda to neutralize the acid.

Oil Carpet Stains

Dishwash liquid is the best way to remove oil. This works great with clothing, carpet and even baby ducks when there are oil spills.

Bleach Carpet Stains

Remove as much of the bleach as you can by washing with cold water (try not to contaminate other areas of the carpet). For chlorine bleach use 1 tbsp. vinegar for each 600 mls water. Although color can be restored thru carpet dying, it is often not advisable because bleach destroys carpet fibers.

Blood Carpet Stains

Clean areas with salt water and paper towels. If it is someone else's blood, make sure to wear proper protective clothing (such as gloves).

Candy, Chocolate, Coffee, Cola Drink Carpet Stains

You can use a neutral detergent or white vinegar in water.

Crayon Carpet Stains

Place paper towel over the area with a crayon/wax stain, and place an iron on top (make sure to move the iron around). The wax will melt and go onto the paper towel. Try to not let the iron touch the carpet, as some carpets will burn if the iron touches them directly. You can also use a rag, but throw it away when you are done.

Kool-Aid Carpet Stain Tips

If you spilled dry Kool-Aid - do not clean it with a wet cloth as this will make the stain worse. Try to vacuum up the Kool-Aid. You can also use a lint remover roll, or tape to help pick up the crystals. If it is wet Kool-Aid, use a wet cloth to remove as much Kool-Aid from the carpet as you can.
