How to Get Rid of the Allergens in Your Bedroom

Are you a person who suffers from allergies? If you are, you're probably gearing up now in an effort to battle the spring weather. Spring is considered by many as the beginning of allergy season due to all of the spores, pollen and mold that enters the air. However, even if you get your usual medications together, it won't make a difference if the room you sleep in is dirty.

Bed pillows, sheets, comforters all carry allergens. As a result, it's important to address the allergens in them quickly. According to experts like the ones at "Kapok" and "Achoo Allergy", here's what you should do:

Keep dogs and cats outside of bedroom.

Do you let your pet sleep in the bed with you? This is a mistake during allergy season. Dogs and cats carry allergens from outside on their coat. As a result, unless you clean their coats daily, they will transport them onto your bed. So, it's best to keep this member of your household out of your bed and into their own separate space.

Wash bedding every 10 day.

It's recommended by the Queen of Clean, Linda Cobb, that bedding should be washed in 130-degree water every 10 days. This includes every part of the bedding - pillows, comforters, mattress pads and blankets.

Dust off all bedding.

If your home is a den of dust that requires daily or tri-daily dusting, don't forget your bedding. Dust it off too during this period even if it doesn't appear to be dirty. You want to avoid waiting until the initial thin layers of dust turn into a large, visible one.

Vacuum your mattress.

This sounds funny. However, it's important to use the nozzle attachment on your vacuum cleaner to vacuum off your mattress and mattress pad. It will help it stay free of allergens.

Air Fluff pillows and comforters when you can't wash them.
