When a dog moves in with a family, they become dependent creatures. You need to bathe them, you need to feed them, etc. They cannot fend for themselves once they are under your roof. You fend for them. They require care and love, just as another member of the family. Although sometimes handling a dog can be quite stressful, in the end it will be that much more rewarding.
The first thing you need to do is get your dog its shots! This is one of the most important things. Vaccinations will protect your dog from all sorts of different diseases you might not even know exist. Take your dog to the vet to get a professional opinion on what shots your dog needs. Your dog should also regularly visit the vet at least once every four months. It is also at the vet that you should get the standard flea medication to put on your dog to prevent fleas, however there are natural remedies you can do for fleas that we will discuss further..
Depending on the age that you bought your dog, you may need to potty train them. This may be one of the hardest things you will have to teach your dog. There is no right or wrong way to do this, you just have to make sure it's done. When they (because they will) pee on your carpet, the first thing you need to do is take them outside. Do this every time; eventually the dog will understand and begin asking for you to take them to the bathroom. At first, however, you will find a few "accidents" by your door. Once you get to this stage, however, you can rest easy knowing that at least the dog knows that it is suppose to do. One of the best things about dogs is that they are eager to please, and they are also very quick learners. They are one of the easiest animals to train.
