Emergency House Clean Up Tips for Unexpected Guests

For whatever the reason you have unexpected company coming over within the hour or maybe sooner and your house is torn apart. You only have a short amount of time, but you can make a huge difference in the appearance of
your house, so grab a basket and garbage bag and get ready!
First thing is light a scented candle if you don't have an automatic scent running through your house already. Take your laundry basket and start tossing any clutter lying around that doesn't belong in the rooms your company will be in. You can now take the basket and put it into a room that no one will be in. After words go through and empty the garbage in each of those rooms. Next is the kitchen! Clear the counters and wipe them down as well as the oven. If anything else get the dishes done or at least stacked neatly. Another quick fix is to load dishes into a dish bin and hide them in the oven. Just don't forget to take them out before turning it on! Don't forget to put out fresh dish towels too!
Now on to the bathroom! Scrape clutter that is lying out into a drawer (or put in a cabinet) and then wipe down the counter, sink and top of toilet. Don't forget to give the toilet bowl a little brush and flush! Pull the shower curtain closed and put out a fresh hand towel and a set of fresh bath mats if possible.
If you are doing good on time (the faster you move, the more calories you will burn!) go ahead and vacuum. To save time just get noticeable areas. For the kitchen or hardwood floors I would get a hand broom and do a quick sweep of larger items. I suggest for future company emergencies, that you invest in either a microfiber mop (they pick up everything) or a Swiffer Vacuum (it is a life saver on kitchen and wood floors).
With any remaining time you have, try and freshen up a little. You don't want to appear rushed! And as your guests arrive, you can apologize for the "mess". Most will think your home is perfectly acceptable and probably wouldn't have looked twice at the condition it was in before anyways. It still feels good to invite someone into your tidy home.
