Chewing Gum and Coffee Stain Removal

Chewing Gum: Some common carpet stain removers will work really well at removing chewing gum. Goo Gone works particularly well at removal of chewing gum. Be warned however that Goo Gone is poisonous and there is a hint of color to it and could dye the carpet. Winning Colors is another good choice.
  • Apply the Goo Gone or Winning Colors (or your product) using a old toothbrush or the cap of the bottle.
  • Work it in to the gummy area to breakup the chewing gum.
  • Pick out the pieces as you can of the chewing gum so you are getting rid of it as soon as possible and not reworking the chewing gum back into the carpet. Patience is a must.
  • Repeat this as many times as you have to.
  • If you are using a poisonous product you should flush the area with water after wards. This is very important is small children or pets in the home. Remember the best way is using a Wet/Dry Shop vac to use to remove water as you go. Or you are left with blotting up the water. Remember NOT to rub. Rub or scrubbing damages the fibers. Damaged Fibers needs what again? That the fibers have cracks, folds to hold stains.
If this fails to get the chewing gum out, call in the Pros. Often a Carpet Cleaner with a truck-mounted hot water extraction unit ( a steam cleaner) can get it out easily. Or Last resort???? Replace the carpet sadly. Or just the effected area of the carpet with patch work.
