Here are the top three keys to removing stains.
- Take immediate action whenever possible.
- Use cold water.
- Do not heat dry the item.
The most embarrassing time to get a stain is in public. These can be the hardest stains to remove, because it is so hard to take instant action. Many companies have tried to cash in on this by creating products to help treat stains instantly. One of these products that I have seen work well is the Tide to go. This is basically stain remover in a pen. It works best on small sized food stains. First wipe of the bulk of the mess, taking care not to rub or press the stain in to the fabric. A good way to do this is to lift it off with a butter knife blade. You will then need to press the Tide to go pen against the stain several times to get the solution moving. Then you simply rub the Tide to go pen across the stain. If you are going to be in direct sunlight it is best to rub the excess solution off after stain removal. As with any marker like product the Tide to go pen can dry out over time.
Stains at Home
If you are at home, the easiest way to go about removing a stain is to simply spray the stain with Shout. Then throw the garment in the wash basket. Double check after the wash cycle before drying to see if the stain is removed. My mom used to try to make laundry a nightmare, I find that some times the simplest way really does work better. I have had this work successfully with food and blood stains.
