Kenmore Washing Machine and Matching Dryer

I needed a new washer and dryer when I moved into a new house about 15 years ago. I decided to get a front load washing machine. I liked the fact that it uses less water than a more common top-loading washer and less detergent is needed to wash the clothes. I am very happy with the washer and dryer set I chose. It did use less water and less detergent and the clothes always seemed cleaner than with a common top-load washing machine.

When I moved into my next house two years ago, I was very sad to leave my favorite washer and dryer behind. Much to my surprise, my new house had the same exact Kenmore front load washer and dryer pair that I had come to love. It was the newer model, but had all the same features that lead me to choose my first Kenmore front-loading washer.

Both the washer and dryer have a stainless steel, rather than plastic, drum. I try to reduce the purchase of plastics for my home appliances to reduce the dependence on petroleum resources. In addition, there are known health risks associated with emissions from plastics. My son has asthma, so I try to reduce the amount of plastics in my home that can irritate his condition.

This model of Kenmore washer and dryer have limited controls. While this may seem like a negative aspect for many, reducing the number of bells and whistles means that there is less risk of problems down the road. When I consider that I use relatively few functions for washing and drying my clothes, I don't see the need for all the extra electronics.
