How to Get Candle Wax Out of Carpeting

Melted candle wax can make a huge mess when spilled, especially on fabric or carpeting. Once it hardens many people do not know how to get it out. The hardened candle wax can be picked off by hand, but more than likely much of it will remain on the fibers of the carpeting. Even the best carpet cleaner will not get candle wax out of carpeting. It takes a special technique to remove the mess, but it can be accomplished using the following easy method.

Precautionary Statement

Use caution when using an iron over carpeting. Some synthetic fibers might melt under high heat. When in doubt, try this method to get a melted candle out of carpeting in an inconspicuous area. Simply use an iron on a medium setting over a single sheet of plain paper bag. Check for damage before continuing with this method to get candle wax out of carpeting.

Necessary Supplies

To get melted candle out of carpeting you will require an electric iron and a plain brown paper bag. You will also need a serrated knife and a pair of scissors to trim the bag. The material used to make paper bags is highly absorbent, and it is perfect for pulling the melted material out of the carpeting simply and easily.

Procedure

Begin by removing as much of the candle wax as possible by hand. When trying to get rid of a large chunk, a serrated knife will come in very handy. Carefully cut it away using a sawing motion, but try not to damage the carpet fibers in the process. If possible break it away by hand to get rid of the majority.

Next, begin preheating the iron. It should be on a medium setting without added water. While the iron is heating trim the paper bag to size. Use a portion of the bag that is not embellished with print since the ink could transfer to the carpeting. The plain paper bag should be as large as or larger than the iron, and it should be at least twice the size of the area of hardened wax. It will probably be necessary to use a few sheets of paper bag to get rid of all of the candle wax in the carpeting.
